The Last Alliance of Men and Elves was an army formed during the end of the Second Age to destroy Sauron's forces. The main leaders were Gil-Galad (with Elrond as a herald) and Elendil, and consisted of Arnorian and High Elven forces. They were later joined by Gondorian forces (led by Anarion and Isildur ), the dwarves of Khazad Dum, and the elves of Mirkwood and Lorien (led by Oroper and Amdir). The massive army had victory at the Battle of Dagorlad and then proceeded to besiege Barad-Dur for seven years. During the siege, Anarion was killed. The War ended on the slopes of Mount Doom when Sauron fought Elendil and Gil-Galad. He killed Gil-Galad but was struck down by Elendil. Elendil was also slain in this conflict. Isildur used the shards of Narsil to cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger and this evil would not appear in Middle Earth again for a thousand years.
