This is the Manual of Style for Edain Mod Wiki that explains the rules/aspects that must be taken into account when editing and creating pages and writing articles. Following these rules will result in correct and organised articles that are pleasant to read.

We hope this guide will help you to understand the guidelines of editing the pages and articles. If you have any questions contact one of our Administrators or visit Forum. You may, however, use the comments to notify a staff member of any error on this page.

Language

Officially the Edain Mod is in two languages: English and German.

This Wiki is written in English so everything you want to edit must be in English.

Second official Wiki is the German Edain Mod Wiki.

Faction Pages

When creating/editing faction page you should follow these guidelines:

  • Introduction quote about the faction. Adding quote is not compulsory, but if you can find suitable quote for a faction put it in. You must use Template:Quote (under the Insert tab). Quote should be placed at the start of the page. When filling out find field named 1 and write the quote in it. In field named 2 you must write who said that quote.
    • The quote should be something memorable from the movie or books which provides a positive image of the faction, it should not be a quote that was used as an insult to the faction or that is unrelated to it.
  • Placing an Infobox. Here you must use Infobox:Faction. It is recommended to fill out all fields of the infobox.
  • Write a description. The descriptions of factions are taken from here
  • Next section is strategic points. Here you must write all strategic points (Castle, Camp, Outpost, Settlement) and what can be built on them. This should include things like cost, possible upgrades and possibly a couple links.
  • Then follows buildings. List all buildings of the faction with costs, life points, description and price reductions. Example can be seen here. Each building should have a precise list of what it recruits (with links), what it researches or what it produces.
  • Writing units. List all units present in the faction. Example of how to format the table of units can be seen here. Units listed here must have links to their separate pages.
  • Next list is naval units. Here must be written all units of the faction that can only travel over water (for example: Transport ship etc.). You can find them for each faction by claiming a dock.
  • Then come Heroes. Here must be listed all heroes (with short descriptions of each) present in the faction. Each hero must be linked to their separate page. Also quotes can be put under the hero name like on Gothmog.
  • Next section is either External Buildplots. This sections lists all buildings, heroes and units that the particular faction can recruit on settlements and outposts. You must use the same setup as the buildings, units and heroes for the faction. Units, heroes and buildings that are built on external plots must only be present in this section, they cannot be duplicated on the main page. Heroes in that section don't get a sub-heading unlike their counterpart in the hero section. See the Lothlorien faction page for more info.
  • Designing Spellbook. To do that you must use Template:Spellbook. Before you create the spellbook, examine the template carefully. There are 12 spells necessary (they go from left to right and down). Each Spellbook picture must have number of Power points required in the bottom of it. More about images in spellbook see Image Policy.
  • Then come Upgrades. Here must be listed and described all upgrades of the faction. Example can be found here. Upgrades that are common in all factions (Increased pantry, Defense Measures) must be put in general upgrades page. The section should also link to the general upgrade page.
  • Last thing is Strategy. Here must be written strategy tips of how better play with the faction.
  • At the end of the page you must add the appropriate faction navbox, each navbox is a template called by it's faction: "Faction" Navbox apart from the Dwarven Realms which is called Dwarves Navbox.
  • After that add categories "Playable Faction"(if it is playable already), "Men", "Elves", "Dwarves" or "Orcs" (depending on faction); "Faction"(the name of faction you are adding) and "Good Faction" or "Evil Faction".

Additionaly if it is an upcoming faction you must add category "Upcoming".

Hero Pages

  • Next heading is: "Upgrades". Here you must write all upgrades the hero can get including the special cases like Galadriel's Gifts of Lorien or Witch-King's ability Might of the Witch-King. If they have upgrades you can use the Template:Upgrades and a set of keywords to link it to the appropriate template.
  • Next section you should create is "Strategy". These are suggestions of how better play with hero.
  • And the last one is "Quotes". Here must be placed quotes, that hero speaks in the game: when he is ordered to move/attack. You don't have to use Template:Quote, just write the lines in Italic. You can also use audio files for the quotes using audio file hosting such as Soundcloud and the following code: <soundcloud url="URL" height="70" />
  • There is a set count of categories you must add in hero pages:

-Faction category: Mordor, Rohan, Etc... !! Note !! Arnor heroes must have both Gondor and Arnor categories added.

-Class category: Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs etc.
