"In those days the smiths of Ost-in-Edhil surpassed all that they had contrived before; and they took thought, and they made Rings of Power"
The Silmarillion: Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age

Ost-In-Edhil Edit

The capital city of the elven-realm of Eregion, and the dwelling place of Celebrimbor and the Gwaith-i-Mírdain. This city was home to the greatest forgemasters and smiths of the Noldor upon the eastern shores in the Second Age, and was the birthplace of the Rings of Power.

Eregion fell in the War of Sauron and the Elves , being the first casualty, with Celebrimbor (Its' Lord) being posted on Sauron's banner. It was never rebuilt, with much of its population relocating to Rivendell instead, with only a small portion going to Lindon.
